WORK ENVIRONMENT

cut-throat, conservative, old-fashioned, disorganized, high-pressure, bureaucratic, unprofessional

COMMENTS:

I was hired by a referral from a current manager in the store I worked for.

The Pros of this job was that I had fair pay especially after being hired as an entry-level employee and co-workers and management were mostly decent with me while being employed in the store.

The Cons are a lot more than the pros at best.
I was trained poorly after being hired and was forced to work on the sales floor even before completing all of it. Even more, I was sometimes left to fend for myself in the department for a few hours with no co-workers which put me in highly stressful mode every now and then especially when this happened on weekends where this store had the most customers during the day.
Management was not much help to me especially when I had to work on my own in the department as they expected me to help all customers who came to my department.
Two out of five of my Co-workers would sometimes use sarcasm on me together whenever I asked them about how to perform a duty that was difficult or complicated for me to do since I had just started out.
After realizing the store title has virtually no relevance to the business Academy conducts, it was hard for me to even think things would actually get better than how it was even if I stayed there longer.

COMPENSATION:

Overall, my working experience here compared to others was worse then everywhere else I've worked at. Management could at least be a little more helpful and caring to us Associates and assist us more whenever customers begin to crowd our departments especially when working alone, instead of just checking up to see if we are doing our job in our departments.

I terminated my position after a little over a month or so because asides from weekends, most of the weeks were slow and non-productive in the store and hours were quite unreasonable. In where I was sometimes scheduled to work one evening and then come in the very next morning, after having to zone all of my department and help close the store and leaving close to midnight that night, and management would only let me get a 15-30 minute break if I was working at least 7 hours or more on 'that' day.

I would only recommend getting a job here if you are highly customer-oriented and can stand the casual high-stress and unfair hours you will probably get when working at academy as an Associate.
